Selling Your Diamond Jewelry After The Divorce – Don’t Do This

Make Money

Broken engagement?  Recent divorce?  Or maybe you need some extra cash.  Pull up a seat, we’ve got a solution for that!

Life happens right?  So you may be faced with selling old or suddenly regretful jewelry but lots of people are on the fence about selling their once beloved pieces. The main reason for this is that there’s a prevalent belief that selling jewelry is a frustrating and time consuming process. If you have ever thought about selling your diamond ring for example, you’ll be relieved to know that by following a few simple guidelines, the process becomes much simpler and less bumpy.

Probably the most important thing you should be aware of before selling any kind of jewelry is being aware of its true worth before delving deep into the market looking for buyers. If you don’t know an accurate approximation of what your old diamond ring is truly worth, you are taking a huge risk and wasting lots of time.

Get your diamond evaluated by an impartial diamond grader (preferably the GIA).  Diamond jewelry can be a bit tricky to sell properly. Having a diamond accurately appraised is something that can’t be done without the proper skill set and tools.

diamond lighthouse1Probably your best bet in this case is to sell your diamond jewelry online. There are trustworthy online sites such as Diamond Lighthouse where you can sell your diamonds online .  If you intend to sell your diamonds by using an online site, make sure that you are selling to a reputable one before making any significant decisions. Online forums and review sites are your best friends in this situation.

There is one more important point to make about pre-owned jewelry: it is generally not as valuable as new. Some particular pieces of jewelry are even hard to sell because they are pre-owned.

Take engagement rings for example; some people will never buy a previous owned engagement set for many different reasons. Pre-owned jewelry that is out of style can never be sold for a premium price. Remember that jewelry is an industry primarily driven by style.

Some styles are timeless and will most likely stay around for decades, while others will be part of trends that will disappear in less than a few months. The other end of the spectrum is that the jewelry could be a valuable antique. Antique jewelry can be highly collectable but it may be only sold by specific means. Pay attention to that if you are going to sell your jewelry.

My Secret To Making a Fulltime Living On Fiverr

Make Money

I accidentally became a seller on Fiverr.com but I hope your journey is far more deliberate. After ten years in personal and corporate banking as a fee-only financial planner (one of the good guys) I discovered my passion for online marketing. You could say I “leaned out” of the corporate banking world where I was poised to make big money and do powerful things. But, in my feminist defense, when you are “leaning in” against a brick wall of male-dominated sexism everyday it feels like the definition of insanity. I could have walked down a million different paths to change my circumstances, but one thing continued to resonate inside of me: I wanted independence.

How was I going to get it? Was a large salary truly everything I should be working toward? Was my time more valuable than money? Was there a new definition of “work” that I was blithely unaware of?

Yes, and I was determined to make a lifestyle change before someone handed me a gold watch. So a year ahead of my corporate departure I put my ducks in a row and decided to start planning for Operation: Tracy Happy. I was in my early thirties, I had a business degree, ten years of extensive financial knowledge, and a Master’s degree in Communication – but what did all of that add up to? As it turns out, everything I had wished for.

Enter Fiverr.com

Sellers arrive on Fiverr.com for a million reasons. You may be a SAHM, recently laid off, or looking for some cash flow on the side of your full time job. It doesn’t matter who you are or where you came from, Fiverr.com welcomes you! As of today, I have been a member of the Fiverr.com community for a little over a year. Of that year, I have been selling on Fiverr.com for eight months. Within three months of becoming a seller I was able to achieve a consistent, full-time salary while working anytime, anywhere, from a beach. This is how I did it.

I was a Fiverr.com buyer before I was a seller. I heard about Fiverr.com from a Bloomberg TV segment and surfed right over to the site. What could I possibly get for $5? As it happens, a lot. Many people let the $5 price tag fool them, both buyers and sellers, DON’T! After I quit my job and began designing my new online persona, I relied on many sellers from Fiverr to breathe life into my website and branding. From blog content to videos, I dove into Fiverr as a buyer and by doing so learned the ropes. I had good experiences and bad, but I gained an education.

It didn’t take long for me to understand how powerful Fiverr’s business model truly was. There are what I call “volume sellers” and “premium sellers.” The first type aims for high volume, cheap gigs with a fast turnaround. The second type strips expensive services down to the bone and then upsells far beyond $5. I was getting work done and it was quick, easy, and far higher quality than I could have done myself. Rarely was I paying $5 per gig, instead my average gig purchase was probably $35-$65. I learned quickly that you paid for what you received so if I wanted a quality output, I had to pony up some cash and find premium sellers. Eventually I saw which sellers to hire and which to avoid. This was a key fact when I decided to put out three gigs of my own – I mimicked what I would have purchased.

I took Fiverr.com seriously. My company brand and website launched January 1st 2014 and my entire business plan ground to a halt. I had a beautiful brand but needed traffic and a direction, how was I going to get it? I couldn’t keep spending money building something, I had to produce an income. This is when the thought occurred to me to sell something on Fiverr.com of my own and offset my costs as a buyer. Boom went the dynamite!

I was an online marketer who knew a lot about finance, why not carve out my own niche on Fiverr.com? That was exactly what I did. I launched two promotional blogging gigs and one financial content writing gig. I completed 50 gigs in the first ten days which solidified my place as a Level One Seller in 30 days and a Level Two Seller in 60 days. During my first month selling I completed 200 gigs! I was so excited I didn’t even realize how many smart things I was doing because it was just plain awesome. So upon hindsight, here are my tips:

  • Be 100% authentic when you set up gigs. Include clear, high-quality photos of yourself and your work environment. Nothing fake! Record a quick, clearly stated video of what you provide for every gig you put out. Strive for good lighting and a nice background, but the overall goal is to be real. Fiverr.com shares the statistic that gigs with videos sell 220% more than the competition, I could not agree more. People want to know who is on the other side of a sale, and they do not expect that person to be a supermodel. If you have 1200 characters of description, fill it. If there are three photo boxes available, upload them. If you have one minute of video space, record it!
  • Do not squander your first 30 days as a Green Horn Seller, use them to your advantage. The only option you have in the first 30 days is to sell $5 gigs so your goal should be to undercut your competition, over deliver on quality, and gain positive feedback for your gigs. So for example, I checked out the writing and translation category and discovered most sellers were offering 300 words for $5 so I offered 500 words for $5 in my first 30-days. I was swamped but I put in the time and gained the credibility. Months two, three, and beyond will get better as you raise prices and complete fewer gigs for more money.
  • I stopped trying to predict the market and listened to it. As an entrepreneur I had done my market research, built a business plan, and set out on the path I was convinced would work – which then stalled. When Fiverr.com started producing a substantial income I knew I had to cut my losses and pivot. So all of the “great” ideas and projects I had once been fostering got left in the dust. I forced myself to label those expenses as sunk costs and moved on. I focused all of my attention on Fiverr.com and began listening to what customers wanted. I immersed myself in the Fiverr.com culture by reading books, blogs, and participating in social media conversations. Through this process, new gigs were created and more streams of income deposited into my bank account.
  • I have a strategy and I set goals. Before tossing my first gig into the economy, I read Fiverr’s Terms of Service thoroughly until I understood exactly what the site offered sellers. This allowed me to play by the rules, plan ahead, and increase my prices accordingly. I knew the exact day I would be upgraded to a Level One and a Level Two selling status and was poised to make my gigs more valuable immediately upon promotion. I began cross-selling gigs and exploring again what the competition was doing. Those 500 words I once sold for $5 were downsized to 100 words for $5 with a full blog post priced at $25. “I will do _ for $5”™ is a fun hook, but the real money is made in the upsell. I consider myself to be a premium seller on Fiverr but I also have volume gigs. A smart mix will make your workload manageable.
  • I know my worth. Women especially struggle with this concept when selling or being in business, but by saying “no” to buyers that are demanding, want discounts, and are generally a pain in the butt is one of the smartest Fiverr.com moves a seller can make. I hear other Fiverr sellers claiming they will go above and beyond for each and every buyer regardless of the ridiculous demands they make – I will not. By setting this type of standard, 99% of my customers are professional and a pleasure to work with.
  • I keep track of my progress. I continuously analyze my selling performance. For Fiverr’s part they do a great job of producing analytics that sellers can utilize, so utilize them! I personally keep a spreadsheet of each month’s closing revenue and create a simple line graph out of that data. When I begin to plateau, I know it’s time to evaluate my current position and opportunities for growth. To date, my average gig price is many times higher than $5 and I complete an average of four gigs per day. I take days off and I do not work full time hours. Operation: Tracy Happy, complete!

The most tenured sellers on Fiverr.com have been around for about four years, so in the scheme of things I am still fairly new to the community. That being said, my business potential is still evolving and that is exciting. Today you can find me wearing yoga pants in front of my laptop and spending time with my kids at the park. No longer does the sun dim as I approach an office building, instead, I wake up feeling empowered and successful. I cannot emphasize enough how lucrative $5 can be, especially when the only thing it costs to enter the gig economy is an idea and a smile.

Tracy writes about minimalist living, micro-freelancing, and personal finance. She lives in the Midwest with her football coach husband and three little kiddos.

Turn Your Basement Into A Cash Machine -Yes! 4 Tips

Make Money, Money Management

That empty dark basement you’ve got at home?  It’s a money making machine and I’m here to tell you how to cash out.

You may know that buying real estate is a good investment, but what if your home has more money in it than just the market value? The best way to get the most money out of your investment is to maximize its assets – and you may not even have to look further than your staircase. Believe it or not, the basement is a great place to turn for extra income

Though many people think to turn their basement into a living room, family room, or play room, there are several ways you can turn your basement into a cash machine that don’t involve a sofa and big screen TV.

Here are 6 ways to get more value of out your basement:

Renovate it. Turning your unfinished basement into a livable space increases the value of your home. If your basement is finished it may be a good idea to give it a facelift with a fresh coat of paint as well as new carpet or flooring.

Add a kitchenette. If you are going to undertake basement renovations you may want to change the way you use the space. People love a good space to entertain guests and where better to do that than in a kitchen. According to U.S. News the average cost of a kitchen remodel is $18,856 but “savvy shoppers can do it for less.”

Sublet it. You may want to renovate your basement into a complete apartment and sublet it out to make some extra monthly cash. If this is the case, be sure to add defined space for a bed, a kitchen, and a bathroom. This will most likely be an expensive renovation, but it could end up having a big pay off.

Find out the other 3 ways to generate cash from your basement here.

15 Ways To Make Money On Fiverr.com

Make Money

Fiverr.com has exploded as the premier source of micro outsourced services on the Internet. Thanks to a multi-million dollar advertising campaign, it is increasingly very hard to find people who haven’t at least heard of Fiverr. Not surprisingly, more and more businesses, both online and offline, are using the services offered on Fiverr.

As Fiverr’s ability to draw clients continues to explode, the good news is that there is more and more demand for whatever services you offer to the global market for digital services. Here are just fifteen ways you can make money on Fiverr.com. Sure, it may seem you aren’t getting paid much but if you are able to knock out these services in a very short period of time, your income from Fiverr might translate to quite a hefty stash of cash.

Offer ebooks or reports you’ve written

Most of the services on Fiverr require that you work on a custom job for you to get paid. In other words, the client sends you specifications and you produce fresh materials based on those specifications. One of my most favorite ways of making money online turns that business model on its head. Instead of you working on new materials for every $5 order that comes your way, you can instead write a book or report once and sell it again and again to different customers. As long as you clearly spell out that you’re not selling resale rights to your work and that you retain all copyright, you should be good to go.

Offer social media services

It is not a surprise that a huge chunk of services offered on Fiverr involve Twitter posts, Facebook promotions, or Google Plus promotions. People are desperate to get traffic to their websites and they don’t mind paying $5 to drive traffic to their web pages.

Write quickly and get paid

If you are able to write very quickly, you can get paid handsomely. Seriously. If you are able to knock out 400 words in 12 minutes or less, you can rack up a base rate of $25 per hour. Not too shabby. The key is to write high quality materials so your buyers will keep coming back.

Use marketing software to get paid

There are all sorts of traffic generation software that you can use for a few minutes to promote clients’ sites. If the software doesn’t take much work to set up, you can make $5 for as little as a minute. That leads to a gross rate of $300 an hour.

Create digital drawings

If you know how to use automated photo-based drawing tools, you can create digital drawings in no time flat. People are always looking for custom graphics based on their pictures.

Research

Get paid to use Google for a research project. As long as you make sure that your research is tightly focused, you should be able to do research in a very short period of time.

Become a virtual assistant

Depending on the country you live in, you can probably make a decent living selling an hour or two of your time doing virtual assistant work for clients you find on Fiverr.

Alter pictures

If you know how to clear the background off a picture using Photoshop, you can make some serious coin through Fiverr. People are always looking to get the background cropped off their pictures so they can use those pictures online.

Design business cards

Companies are always in need of business cards and there is no shortage of demand for people with fairly basic graphics skills who can design business cards.

Take pictures with signs

One of the easiest ways to make money off Fiverr is to take a picture of you holding up a sign standing next to a landmark in your area.

Distribute fliers

If you are located next to a university, giving out fliers is a great Fiverr gig. There’s always demand for this promotions method.

Write a review

If you are a fast writer and can knock out a 400 word review in less than 12 or 10 minutes, this can be a great gig to offer. People are always in need of reviews since consumers often buy products or services after reading a review.

Make a video testimonial

If you look presentable and can speak professionally in front of a camera, you should offer video testimonials. This type of gig is constantly one of Fiverr’s top sellers.

Use software to produce SEO diagnostic results

There are tons of software that diagnose how healthy a site is in terms of SEO. You can buy such a piece of software and offer to do custom diagnoses on Fiverr. Since these software packages don’t take too long to operate, you can make quite a bit of cash.

Use software to find SEO keywords

The same analysis for SEO diagnosis above applies to SEO keywords. The big difference is you’re producing a report composed of keywords. There’s a huge demand for this service.

Regardless of your skill level, there something you can offer the global market for outsourced services. Get started on Fiverr today and start turning your spare time into spare cash.

8 Quick Ways to Make Money from Home

Make Money

Anyone who has ever googled “work from home” or “make money from home” knows that the web is overflowing with sites proclaiming you can make thousands from the comfort of your living room, most of the time requiring you to first buy a book, CD, or DVD to learn how.  Since there is so much of this garbage out there, it can be frustrating looking for legitimate ways to work from home.  Below are some reasonable ideas to consider.  None of these will make you rich, but they’re good options for putting some extra cash in your wallet.

  • Direct Sales Home Businesses – Host “parties” at your home to get discounts and a little cash, or become an independent sales rep yourself to make even more money.  Many of them offer online shops that you can set up under your name.  Some of the most popular ones are:   Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware, Thirty-One Gifts, or Pampered Chef; there are also numerous companies selling candles, jewelry, children’s books, children’s clothes, etc.)
  • Have an eBay “Garage Sale” – Scour your house from top to bottom for unused items.  Open up a shop on eBay (it’s free), take pictures of your items and let the bidding begin.  You will also get the added benefit of de-cluttering your house!
  • Tutor (In-home or Online) – There is always a need for tutors at any grade level.  You can do this out of your home, or find one of the many opportunities to do it online.
  • Online Surveys – There are tons of sites online that pay you to fill out surveys so they can obtain market data, just make sure the site is free!
  • Dog Walking/Pet Sitting – Dog owners always need someone to walk their dog on a busy work day or pet sit overnight when away on vacation or business.  Research the local pet care companies in your area to review the services they offer.  You may even start off by working for one of them as you get your feet wet.
  • Babysit Kids in Your Home – Many parents are looking for lower cost alternatives to daycare; consider sitting a couple of kids in your home!  If you have your own kids at home, there is the added benefit of playtime and socialization with your kids.
  • Freelance Writing – If you have a flair for writing, there many freelance writer opportunities available such as writing technical or marketing pieces; or articles for journals, newspapers, or magazines.  You can also get paid to write blog articles for various websites like the Yahoo Contributor network, for example.
  • Start a Home Business– Stick with your talents or what you love to do.  For example if you are into:
    • Photography; start a small photography business
    • Crafts; start a shop on Etsy selling your handmade products
    • Sewing; be a seamstress or sell your  handmade clothing items on Etsy
    • Scrapbooking; start a business creating scrapbooks for us less-creative folks!
    • Baking; start a small cake baking business
    • Party planning; start small with birthday parties, etc. and maybe eventually expand into larger events like weddings!
    • Music; based on your talent (piano, voice, guitar, etc.), offer music lessons out of your home

There are some legitimate home-based jobs that you can find online, such as being a Virtual assistant or a Customer Service Rep.  Just be sure not to sign up for anything that requires any kind of upfront fee.  RatRaceRebellion.com and FlexJobs.com are also fantastic places to start the search for work from home gigs.

Ladies: Reclaim the $500,000 You’re Leaving on the Table

Make Money, Money Management, Uncategorized

One of the realities of your personal economic situation as a woman is that you are likely to earn less money over your lifetime than your male counterparts. Not only does that result in a lifetime wage gap of nearly $500,000, but it also means that women are more likely to fall behind in terms of financial well-being over time.

Studies and reports on the overall financial health for women show, time and again, that women are vulnerable when it comes to money. Whether it’s because they work in jobs that pay less or  take time out from the workforce to raise children or for some other reason, women are likely to face huge challenges later in life.

Not only do women miss out in terms of making as much as men do over their lifetimes, but the loss is compounded by the fact lower pay means less money to invest in retirement accounts (especially if that lower pay is the result of staying home).

So, how do you close the gap — especially if you decide to stay home at least during some of your working years? Here are some ways to close the funding gap:

Negotiate a Higher Salary Up Front

Last year at FinCon, I spoke with a male colleague who told me what he charged for a freelance post. It is three times what I charge for a similar type of post. Why does he get paid so much more than I do?

Because he asks for it.

Gloria Feldt, a well-known women’s advocate and author of No Excuses: 9 Ways Women can Change How We Think About Power, once told me that the almost $500,000 pay gap is due largely to the fact that many women are afraid to negotiate higher salaries when they start a career. As a result, they are behind their entire working lives.

Even worse, many women don’t ask for raises or promotions, even though they may deserve them. This means that they end up making entry-level wages far longer than they should be. If you are a woman, negotiate your salary up front, and negotiate throughout your career. That can go a long way toward reclaiming your wages.
Invest, Including in an IRA
If you really want to make up the difference, you need to invest. The returns on your investment can be a great way to make up for the fact that you make less money over time. If you have extra cash, invest it.

You can even invest for the future using a retirement — even if you decide to stay at home. Your spouse can contribute to an IRA on your behalf. The best part? This money is yours once it’s in the account. It’s in your name, and not your spouse’s. There’s nothing wrong with asking your spouse to contribute to an IRA in your name, since you are staying home and taking care of the kids and the house. Just frame it in terms of how you can double your IRA contributions of a household if your spouse contributes to your IRA as well as his/her own. As a stay at home spouse, your retirement planning is especially important.

Start a Side Gig
You can earn more money by starting your own business. A side gig can be the perfect way to close the income gap. Even if you stay home, or work part-time, you can take advantage of a side gig. There are plenty of women who make money on the side, from a home office, in between taking care of the children and fixing dinner. I had a business meeting on the phone the other day, while cooking dinner. Completely professional? Probably not. But it got the job done.

Take the money you earn from your side gig, and put it to work toward your savings goal, or invest it in a retirement account. Put your extra cash to work on your behalf, and the compound returns can help fund your lifestyle later — and you won’t be so dependent on someone else for your financial well-being.

What do you think? Are you worried about your financial vulnerability? How are you combating it?

Qmee – Make Extra Money Online – Today

Make Money, Uncategorized

Everyone wants to know how to earn a bit of extra cash, but there are so many ideas out there that take too much time and effort for minimal reward, or are simply “schemes” that promise the world and don’t deliver.

This is where Qmee comes in. Whilst it won’t make you filthy rich, it’s a legitimate tool that rewards you for searching online, and it doesn’t require you to do anything different.

got-cash

Intrigued?

Qmee is a free browser app, that once installed, works in the background so that when you do a search on Google, Bing, Yahoo or even on Amazon or eBay, Qmee displays alternative results that show cash rewards. By clicking on these results, you earn that reward. They aren’t points you can earn that eventually add up so you can trade them in for something – it’s real cash that gets immediately added to your piggy bank.

You can even see the reward being added to your piggy bank in real-time with the little icon in your browser.

The results are small, typically between 5 cents and 40 cents so they are never going to make you filthy rich, but getting cash rewards for relevant results you were going to click on anyway versus getting no cash reward for clicking on a result?  This is a no-brainer.

But that doesn’t mean you get spammed with irrelevant results – Qmee works really hard to ensure the results you see are relevant and interesting to you. So Qmee doesn’t appear all the time, only when there’s something you really might be interested in. And they don’t take over your whole screen like those annoying popups – it’s just a toolbar down the left-hand side and you can click to close the Qmee results if you aren’t interested.

One of the best things is that there’s no minimum cash out amount, i.e. if you have 15 cents in your piggy bank and you want to cash out that 15 cents now, you can – straight to your PayPal account. You also have the option to donate to charity.

So whilst it may not help towards buying a brand new car or a house, it at least puts some money towards treat items we always need once in a while, and it’s giving you something back for the value you provide to advertisers.

Qmee really is that simple. Once you signup, which only requires a username and password, you install the add-on and begin searching. It works best in Chrome and Firefox but it is also available in IE and Safari.

Qmee is invite only at the moment, details of how to get an invite here: http://blog.qmee.com/how-can-i-get-a-qmee-invite/

Does eBay Offer Lucrative Trading Opportunities?

Make Money

EBay Inc. is one of the largest ecommerce companies in the world. Operating as a technology company, eBay enables global consumers, retailers, merchants and brands of various sizes, to easily gain access to online sales services. This online marketplace giant operates in three core segments which include; marketplaces, payments and enterprise.

The Marketplaces segment is responsible for operating the ecommerce platform, or eBay.com, as well as localized sites, vertical shopping and classifieds websites. The Payments segment of eBay is responsible for operating PayPal, which is largest online payments system in the world.

Finally, the Enterprise segment serves individuals and brands operating in the general merchandise category by providing them with various commerce technologies to enhance their online business. With an understanding of eBay and its operations, you might be wondering if you should be trading in eBay stock. Let’s explore this further.

eBay Stock – A Trading Opportunity?

eBay’s stock price has been trending sideways for the past couple of weeks and investors have found limited trading opportunities on the stock. The stock has been ‘trapped’ between $28 and $30 for about 6 weeks now and traders who employ range trading strategies, would have found this stock very attractive.

The major factor that led to low volatility on this stock was the quarterly financial report that was released in October. The report showed mixed performance on various metrics and did not spark a directional move on the company’s stock. The major strengths the report showed compared to last year, however, was in its stock performance and strong return on equity.

Screen Shot 2015-12-24 at 4.38.00 AM

Compared to the previous year, eBay’s price closed 49.56% higher in the third quarter of 2015. This represented one of the best performances of a stock within that time period. The report also showed that the company achieved a return on equity (ROE) of 46.08% in the third quarter of 2015 compared to -0.26% ROE in Q3 of 2014.

This ROE was way above the industry average of 12.77% as well as the S&P 500 index (SPX) average of 12.91%. This showed that eBay remains a strong leader among its peers.

Screen Shot 2015-12-24 at 4.38.16 AM

Nevertheless, the latest earnings report also had a couple of bad news items that cast a negative outlook on the company’s future performance. Since the same quarter a year ago, eBay’s revenues decreased by 51.79%, which was way below the average industry growth of 10.2%. This decline in revenue resulted in a $0.45 earnings per share (EPS) compared to $0.82 EPS recorded in the same period last year.

Compared to the same quarter last year, the net income also decreased 19.92% to $539 million. Net operating cash flow also suffered a significant tumble of 49.85% to $686 million compared to the same quarter the previous year.

eBay Fundamental Outlook

eBay operates in the internet services and software industry, where it is one of the major players alongside brands such as Google and Yahoo.  This industry is highly dynamic and competitive, but eBay has managed to grow its unique business model. Around the world, customers are now becoming more and more comfortable making online purchases and this bodes well for eBay, which is one of the largest online marketplaces controlling PayPal, the biggest online payment solution.

Other major fundamental factors that will like boost the performance of eBay include the declining cost of computers and internet tariffs as well as the increasing online availability of most businesses’ goods and services.

In October this year, eBay, which is a US company based in San Jose, California, gained significant political capital when President Obama, in an open letter, reiterated his commitment to push for the enactment of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

This is a trade agreement that seeks to regulate and streamline trade between the US and 11 other Asia-Pacific countries. If passed, eBay will have its cash flows and revenues greatly boosted as more transactions will be able to be completed by its customers.

Despite the mute stock performance, eBay enjoys solid fundamentals that will likely support its next phase of bullish growth.

eBay Technical Analysis

The current price of eBay is $28.53 a share. Ever since the stock went on a mini rally in mid-October that saw it break above the $28 level, there has been a sideways price movement that has seen the pair contained between the $28 and $30 price levels. This price range has been so dominant that on many binary options platforms, traders have applied the No Touch boundary option contracts on this stock.

After breaching the previous resistance of $28, the stock has been consolidating with an upward bias because the stock price has only retreated to this level once during the 6-week period. Investors firmly expect an upward break out of the current range with $35 likely to be the medium term price target.

Final Word

The current sideways price movement of eBay offers traders the chance to position themselves for the return of liquidity to the stock. Given eBay’s promising fundamentals, its stock looks under-priced and offers traders a lucrative trading opportunity going into the month of December.

Freelance Writing  Companies are always looking for writers to help them convey a message or boost their rankings in search engines.  Compensation varies by niche and industry but the average is around $15-$250 per written article.  Obviously, larger companies can afford to pay much more for per article with smaller companies with scores of writers paying less.  The key here is to understand how to connect with your audience while maintaining a firm grasp of the information being presented. Demandstudios is a decent place to start when looking for freelance writing gigs. The job board at problogger.net is also another place to start but you have to be quick and monitor it often to be one of the first to reply to a job posting.

Each job is different.  Some may want you to be yourself and speak as you would to a girlfriend, where as others require a more formal tone.  You’ll have to decide how you’ll adapt your writing style for each article.  The best way to get started is by guest posting or starting your own blog.  From there, you can put your writing on display for others to see and use that work to back up your application for a paid gig.

Virtual Assistant  This is a great way to work from home while helping a busy entrepreneur, overworked mom, dad with endless honey dos or whoever needs help with logistical and administrative tasks.  You can start by marketing yourself on eLance.com or locally via Craiglsist or Backpages.  If you’re brand new to this, then working with family members who can give you positive feedback on sites like eLance is a good place to start.

Remember, if you’re new then you’ll need the review of someone else who has experienced and able to speak to your work ethic.  Positive reviews are keys to snagging your first client.

Selling Items on Craigslist or Ebay  You’re thinking, I’ve heard this before, and maybe you have but I have a twist to this.  Check out sites like Freecycle.org locally in your area and selectively choose items that you may be able to resell.  Some donors on the site don’t want to be bothered with selling their stuff so they give it away free in hopes that someone else can use it.

Well, this is where your money making mojo kicks in!  Carefully review the items being offered (especially baby clothes, this is huge on Ebay!) and make arrangements to see pictures and if all looks well then pick it up.  Do whatever you need to do to bring it up to selling condition and post it to Ebay or Craigslist.

Set up an online store.  This does take a bit more work and intentional effort to set up but once you do it can become an instant money making machine!  I am a huge fan of making money while I sleep.  And, while the upfront effort required is more than other options, the effortless reward of making money is good enough for me.

The best example for this is Steve at mywifequitherjob.com.   He has the best tutorials to help you get started on building your next online empire.  He lists his incomes, trials and what works.  Take a look and see how his tips can help you get started.

Selling gold.  You’ve seen the ads and you may be thinking, “Ginger, I don’t have any gold to sell!”.  Back that up.  Buy your gold low on Aliexpress.com and then sell it here locally for a profit!  Visit a local gold buyer or call one up and ask about the types of gold they buy.  Find out which ones get the most payout and then search accordingly on Aliexpress.com.  We’re all about thinking out of the box here so you don’t have to hack grandma’s old jewelry to make money selling gold.

How’s that for tips on how to make money online?  Questions?  Do you have other tips on how you make money online?

15 Legitimate Ways Make Money Online – Part 1

Make Money, Uncategorized

You’re here because you want to learn how to make money online.  And, you’re not alone.  Most people do and we all have different reasons for doing so.  If you’re like me, then you want to spend more time with family and avoid the hustle and bustle of a daily commute.  For others, making money online means owning their time and not having to answer to anyone else.

Now you may be asking, how can I really make money online?  Is it legitimate?  Is it possible?  Yes and yes.   You can make money online and there are tons of legitimate opportunities for you to do so.  We’ll cover a total of 15 ways to do so here but we will make this a 3 part series since I want to go into details with each way to make money online.

Start a website or blog

  • Personal finance blog
  • Weight loss blog
  • Relationship blog

The above-mentioned websites are really popular and of course come with the ability to make money.  Specifically, personal finance, weight loss and relationship websites are of high interest and are very lucrative when monetized effectively.  This is because they represent vices that we all struggle with in some way or another.

As a result, people are always looking for ways to improve their lives in these 3 specific areas.  These sites can be monetized via lucrative social media campaigns for large brands, freelance writing for other sites and of course advertising.

When I started Girls Just Wanna Have Funds, I had no idea about all of the resources available to make money online and offline with this site but it has been a blessing!  Now, I am in no way advocating that you only start a site for the purposes of making money.  Especially in personal finance.  You will fail miserably because it will come through in your writing.  Pick a topic that you are truly invested in and start there.

Before getting started determine how you can effective monetize it and create a monetization and marketing plan.  Sorta like a business plan for blogging.  Sounds weird but trust me, when you have a plan laid out for what you want to do and how you plan to accomplish it, everything falls into place.

Start here and in this order: (I am very partial to WordPress for obvious reasons: I use it here :-) )

  1. Decide on a domain name.  Make sure that it’s memorable and catchy while instilling a deeper meaning to your readers.  Don’t get too deep with it but keep it simple
  2. Purchase, register and host your domain name.  I love Liquidweb.  Do all 3 with the same company.  It is a hassle to register and host your website with 2 different companies
  3. Install WordPress.  WordPress is king in the content management system arena.  Please don’t use Blogger.  If you have aspirations of taking your site to the big time, you will eventually want to switch to WordPress.  Liquidweb will often (if not always by request) help you with this part because it is super easy.  WordPress has one click installations now so you’re lucky.  Back in the day I was still fiddling with the FTP server in hopes that my files would transfer completely without a hitch.
  4. Install a WordPress theme.  Find one that is clean and laid out in an intuitive manner.  Choose between one that looks like a standard website or a straight up blog.  You decide.
  5. Add a few plugins.  WordPress is king in this area which is why I advocate starting out with them.  There are plugins out there for pretty much anything you can think of website related but starting out you may just need WordPress Jetpack.  As you blog more and network with other bloggers, then you’ll realize what they use and go through a trial and error period to see what works for you.
  6. Start blogging.  Now.  Do it often.

Website design or Fairy Blogmother services

If you have a penchant for design or are familiar with blog/website set up, then this is a service that you can create and market to others.  This involves creating logos, social media icons, headers and other design elements of a website.  I like to refer to this as fairy blog mother services for newbie bloggers who don’t have a clue around how to set up a properly structured blog.  I’ve done this often for new bloggers wanting to set up a website but who have no clue about where to get started.

Affiliate/Internet Marketing

When you visit a website and there’s a product being offered there, it’s more often than not an affiliate product being marketed to you.  How affiliate marketing works is Big Brand A approaches a website or the blogger/website owner may go through sites like CJ.com to sell a specific product.  That product is then offered on a website for sale with the compensation for doing so varying between brands.

For example, if a website displays an ad cable TV or Internet, then this might be an affiliate set up where the site gets $10 per sign up.  The same ad can be set up as a CPM model so not all ads that you see on websites are affiliate based.

A great example of this is the website:  flexsealspraycan.com.  Keep in mind, this is a niche website that’s hyper focused on one product: Flex Seal.  The money maker here is that for every sale they make, they get a split percentage from the sale.  This varies with each affiliate company but it can range from $8-$12 per sale depending on volume.  So you see, you can focus on several products at a time or one as with this example.

Network marketing

Network marketing is also known as multilevel marketing (MLM).  You may know this as Avon, Mary Kay, Amway and the like.  Some tend to turn their noses up at this, but don’t sleep on this just yet.  I know several ladies making bank doing this and they love it.  And there are others who do not make money from this so the success stories tend to vary.

However, those who are successful control their time while marketing a product they love and stand behind.  Success for me means replacing a “day job” income and being able to control my own time.  I’ve been considering this for some time with Visalus but I have my hand in too many pots right now to add something else to the mix.  I find that those successful in this arena are because they are really committed to the program because there is no other option for them.

So the key is to make sure that you’re selling a product that you can genuinely get excited about while understanding that in order for this to be successful you need to get committed and be willing to fail often, but cheaply.

Fiverr

Fiverr is a website that allows you to sell “gigs” for $5.  The products and services vary widely but you’d be surprised as what you can find there: video editing services, ebooks etc  You name it, it’s probably there or soon will be.  Think about Fiverr as a way to get exposure for a larger service that you offer.  Fiverr services tend to be limited in their scope so don’t go there looking to get a 6 hour job done. However, you can add to the service requested of the seller offers this as an option.

Making money online will take work and dedication.  This series is not meant to be a get rich quick scheme on how to make money online.  You will often do just as much if not more work as your day job.  The difference is that you will love what you’re because it’s something that allows you to control your time while doing something you love or are at the very least skilled or interested in doing.

That’s it for today!  Come back tomorrow and later this week for part 2 and 3 of making money online.

How To Make Money Investing In Gold

Investing, Make Money

Don’t knock it until you try it!  Most people don’t invest in gold because they feel that it’s not as easy as it is to invest in paper. It’s unfortunate because that’s simply not true.

Investing in gold is just as easy to acquire if you know how to do it.

Why Invest In Gold Now?

Let’s talk about why people are investing in gold before understanding how possible it is to invest in it. You’ve most likely noticed that interest rates have plummeted and they aren’t rising anytime soon. The value of the dollar and euro has sunk and they don’t seem to be getting any lifesavers.

What this means is that many people are turning to gold because that’s what investors historically have done. As soon as the economy takes a downturn they run to the gold market. So what happens when everyone starts buying? There’s less available and whenever there’s a high demand for something, prices soar.

Now, with the economy stuck in the gutter, gold continues to be bought up before it’s even found. Experts are saying that the prices for it will rise in 2012 and continues all the way up to into 2014.

If you’ve heard the saying, “Buy low, sell high” then you know that right now is the time to buy. Of course, you could have bought years ago and gained much more from your investment but hey, you can’t go back in time. All you can do is look forward and control your destiny.

Gold is lower now than it will be in another year, so take advantage of it. Don’t look back in two years and think, “I really should have bought then.”

Okay, so now that you know why you should invest in gold, let’s start talking about how you can invest in it.

How to Invest in Gold Online

Online investment in gold is easy!  All you need to do is find a reputable company, which is easy to find because some of the most prominent ones are backed by the Better Business Bureau and the most reputable precious metal associations. Just make sure you do your research so you aren’t buying fake gold or sending your money into a scammer’s wallet with nothing in return.

One you find a website you trust you can decide whether you want to buy gold coins or bullion. Usually, people who want to invest a few thousands of dollars will go with bullion while modest investors stick with the coins.

When you decide what you want to buy, you can start to stalk the prices of them. Do it for about a week or so until you get comfortable with the highs and lows of the market. When you see a price that makes you want to jump on it because it’s lower than what you’ve been seeing, all you have to do is lock in the price with your credit card online or by calling the company.

After you’ve locked in the price, you’ll have to make arrangements to prove your identity to the company and send them the money. This can usually be done with wire transfer or personal check. Each company has different requirements for how long you have to send your payment, but it’s usually 48 hours.

Once you have made your payment and proved your identity, you are a proud gold investor! You can then have it sent to you for storage or if you are using a company that also has storage capabilities, you can purchase that option. It all depends on what you want to do with your gold.

Gold IRA

A gold IRA will protect your investment and can be bought as an ETF or in its physical form – coins, bars, jewelry.   Your Gold IRA can also help you avoid:

  • Rising inflation
  • Rising interest rates
  • A volatile stock market
  • Weakening dollar

Planning for inflation is a smart move and Lear Capital is a great place to get started!

So now that you know how simple it is to invest in the gold market, it probably doesn’t seem so intimidating, does it? Go ahead and check into it. You’ll be amazed at how lucrative this market can be and you’ll get excited when you finally make that decision to plunge into it.

5 Tips To Beat The Rat Race And Work from Home

Career, Make Money

This post is first in a series discussing the many ways in which you can work from home while spending more time with children and family while pursuing other interests. Please submit your stories if you are currently working from home or have a telecommuting arrangement with your place of employment.

This article from Squidoo, Legitimate Work From Home Jobs is full of great information about opting out of the rat race and doing so as long as you have an internet connection.

Check out the following companies hiring work at home agents:

Freedom Telework
Freedom Telework has a reverse bidding structure – you should have a business license and your own equipment. You tell their clients how much you’ll charge by the minute or hour.
Alpine Access
Alpine Access hires virtual call center agents as W-2 employees. Competition for jobs is stiff, however, they are one of the most respected in the industry.
LiveOps
Liveops is another BPO firm – you’ll be an independent contractor.
Superior Telemarketing
Superior Telemarketing pays an hourly wage for their W-2 employees to work from home.
1-800-FLOWERS
1-800-FLOWERS hires in specific regions. Their work-from-home agents are W-2 employees.
West at Home
West at Home hires home-based independent contractors, and they tend to hire on a regular basis. Again, because of their popularity, there’s some real competition to get a job with them.
American Airlines
American Airlines hires home-based reservation agents across the U.S. who have a call center close to home.
Accolade Support
Accolade Support also hires home-based agents to work on a variety of client projects.
Extended Presence
Extended Presence hires outbound callers to work on their B2B campaigns.
Working Solutions
Working Solutions hires agents throughout the US and Canada. Call center projects can include order processing, reservations, enrollments, customer service, sales, market research, technical support, etc.

Things to Consider:

Fees. Some companies charge start up fees, training fees and/or equipment fees which you are responsible for since you will be working as an independent contractor in most cases. I will cover the pros and cons of this in an upcoming post. Make sure that your cost-benefit analysis puts you ahead in a fairly short amount of time. For example, I wouldn’t pay a $550 set up/equipment/training fee for a job that pays $8/hr.

Time Management. While working as an at home agent last summer, I found it became difficult to remain productive since I wasn’t commuting and my work didn’t have set deadlines attached. I had extra time on my hands and I tend to work best when I am under pressure to meet a deadline. Be mindful of any decreases in productivity as you transition into telecommuting.

Company Culture and Expectations. Pay attention to company culture and adapt, quickly. You’ll save yourself time and unnecessary frustration if you’re able to figure out whether or not you’ll fit in. While you won’t have a supervisor in your face, you will be interacting with other work from home employees typically within a forum or chat room, this is not the time to talk with co-workers about topics other than work-related issues, keep it clean and professional. This is also not the place to lodge complaints about the company, do so with your supervisor or get advice from other coworkers.

Backup Plan. Working from home is a blessing in so many ways, but it can be a nightmare if there are cutbacks due to budgetary issues or if you aren’t making the arbitrary “cut”. This happens frequently in the work from home agent field so be prepared to pursue other opportunities should this one fall through. An emergency fund is key once you make the decision to opt out of the rat race.

Reputation. Check out the company’s reputation because scams abound in this field and Ive known a few people to give up a good paying day job for a telecommuting job that seemed too good to be true. Check them out via telecommuting forums and by searching online for general information and employee experiences.

21 Days To Rock Your Finances: Day 5- Make Extra Money

Blog Series, Make Money, Money Management

Let’s recap

Today’s task involves reviewing your income streams or lack of it if you’re unemployed to see how and where you can make extra money.  This is important because this is the core of how you’ll achieve financial freedom: creating a sustainable income for you and/or your family.

Career

Are you making as much as you can in this area?  Make sure that you’re being paid in par with others in your field given similar years, education, background and expertise.  If not, discuss the matter with your higher ups and seek out advice on how best to move up the financial ladder within your organization.

If you’ve hit a ceiling in this area, depending on how much you’re making, this may be OK or it may be time to jump ship and seek a new line of work. For example, if you’ve been an administrative assistant for the last 5 years, it may be time to start looking for Executive Assistant positions which typically pay more.

Your career will often be the most valuable source of income unless you own a profitable business.  Invest the time in your education or gain the experience needed to increase your income in this area.

Make Extra Money On The Side

Check out the following ways to make extra money:

  • Pet Sitting, Especially Overnight Pet Sitting
  • Mystery Shopping
  • Sell Old Stuff On Ebay And Craigslist
  • Date Night Childcare
  • Get a 2nd Job
  • Make Your Hobby Your New Money Maker
  • Start A Bath and Body Products Company
  • Tutoring

Here are a few other ways to make extra money, whether you start a new business or get a side hustle:

Tips To Increase Your Net Income

  • Adjust the deductions on your paycheck to increase your take home pay but do so carefully as you want to break even come tax time.  Paycheckcity is a good place to start.
  • Later in the series we’ll discuss trimming your budget by saving money on things like auto insurance, utilities and groceries.  Cutting back in these areas gives you extra income now.  So this is a worthy effort you want to start thinking about as we move through the series.

Today, take a few minutes to think about how you can diversify your income streams and make more money.  Don’t have time?  Make the time.  If financial freedom is important than you’ll find the time.

8 Easy Ways to Put Some Extra Cash In Your Pocket

Featured, Make Money

As we ramp up financial plans and resolutions for the new year, we’re all looking for ways to make extra money.  It’s no secret – if there’s debt to be paid, there’s money to be made.  Check out the following ways to make extra money while putting a dent in your debt or better yet saving for a rainy day.

Pet Sitting, Especially Overnight Pet Sitting

Pet sitting is a great money maker as pet owners are willing to shell out the cash to make certain their pets don’t lose their furry minds while they are gone on vacation or just away for the weekend.  The hours are convenient for someone who already has a 9-5 as the overnight portion typically starts late evening and goes into the next morning.  The rates for this can run upwards of $50 per night if you own your own pet sitting business.  If you go through a pet sitting service then you can expect to net around 25%-50% of the total fee paid by the owner.  If you have the time to attend to the pet during the day then there’s extra cash in this as well: walking, cleaning the litter box, administering medication etc

Mystery Shopping

Mystery shopping is a great way to earn money during down time since it requires very little effort.  Many companies allow you to sign up and get started on the same day which is great since you get the cash within 1-2 weeks after your assignments have been completed and verified.  EMPSonline.com has always been a consistent place which lists “shops” that pay $40 per shop.  The best part?  They offer direct deposit and the ability to submit your reports online.  This streamlines the process and lessens the time between starting a shop and getting paid.

Sell Old Stuff On Ebay And Craigslist

Ebay and Craigslist are great for selling old stuff.  Your trash is another man’s treasure and they are more than willing to pay you for it.  Go forth and list your items there and get your money!  Another tip?  You may sometimes come across an item that is grossly under-priced on Craigslist and sell it on Ebay if you’re willing to ship it to someone in another state.  This tends to be the case with so computers and other electronics if the person is desperate to get rid of it.  This is also found this to be the case with exercise equipment.  Ebay tends to pull bidders into a frenzy towards the end of the auction so if you have an item that most people are searching for then buying low on Craigslist and selling high on Ebay may be the way to go.

Date Night Childcare

If you love children, then this is a great option!  Market yourself to local parents as the date night solution.  Parents of young children are always looking for trustworthy and reliable people to babysit so that they can have a few needed hours to themselves.  Offer overnight babysitting and you’re in it to win it!  Parents appreciate it and you will certainly be passed around to their friends to do the same.  Tip:  It helps if you’re CPR and first aid certified.  Parents want to know that if something happens that you know how to tackle the situation with skill.

Get a 2nd Job

Right now it may seem that jobs aren’t plentiful but there are indeed many lower paying jobs that you’d be surprised aren’t being filled.  This is to your advantage as you may be able to negotiate better hours in exchange for filling a position, especially during the holidays.

Make Your Hobby Your New Money Maker

What do you spend most of your time doing?  Take that and make some money doing it!  This isn’t always immediately obvious, so take some time to think about how you can combine 1 or a few of your passions into something that can net you some cash for a rainy day.  For example, if you have a Type A personality and love organizing spaces then advertise yourself to friends and family as an organizer.   The same goes for make up.  If you happen to do makeup really well then market yourself to local brides as the makeup guru to get their faces done on the big day.

Start A Bath and Body Products Company

Don’t gloss over this just yet.  There’s a huge market for naturally made soaps, creams and perfumes.  If you can find a good supplier for unique and quality scents with a fresh base then you are set. The drawback of this is of course becoming too popular and then falling behind on orders since they are handmade and made to order.  Research this opportunity carefully and thoroughly.  One should only enter this arena if they truly have a heart of creating lovely smell goods!

Tutoring

This is pretty self-explanatory.  Put flyers up at local schools and post and ad on Craigslist detailing your specialties and rates.  It helps to have great references and the ability to coach children through difficult topics while helping them learn the information in a way that they are unable to in class.

Earning extra money may seem difficult, but put some thoughts into where your energy will be most profitable prior to jumping in.  What are your best money makers when you need extra cash?

Make Extra Money Selling Avon: Denise’s Story

Blog News, Featured, Make Money

In our next series of Avon interviews, I had the pleasure of interviewing Avon superstar, Denise.  Like Becky, she makes money selling Avon products to friends and family and has tons of fun doing it!  While interviewing Denise it became immediately clear that we share many of the same values around women and money which made this interview easy with many “yes, me too!” moments.

What’s Her Story?

Denise is a mom who has been selling Avon for about 3 years now.  She happened upon Avon due to the pending birth of her son, however she’d recently lost her job. While feeling at a loss for how she would support her family, Denise decided to follow through on a local advertisement she saw for Avon.  Feeling that she was failing her son before he was born due to losing her job, she honed in on her survival instincts because she had a new child to support.

One key selling point that helped her make the decision is that selling Avon means selling something that someone else makes.  This means no time spent creating the product, being an Avon representative means that the product is ready to ship while making a higher margin.

21st Century Avon

A common theme in our interviews is all of the representatives feel that Avon has certainly turned the page and is no longer “your gramma’s Avon”.  Avon is cool, fresh and appeals to a wide audience of women which spans generations.  Some of us grew up with our moms selling Avon for extra cash and for many this played an integral part in supporting their households.

For Denise this was no different.  At the time, she was in a place where she was dependent upon the income from Avon to support herself while giving her the time and flexibility needed with her newborn son.

She describes herself as her own best customer and tells me that “people don’t know how much Avon has to offer.”  From “perfume to panties”, Avon sells everything a woman needs to feel sexy, sophisticated and pretty at the same time.

Flexibility

When asked what she likes best about Avon, Denise replied that the flexibility this offers is top of mind.  This isn’t a job where she would have to sell, sell, sell while under high-pressure deadlines, she is able to sell as little or as much as she wants with no threat of losing her job.  She often remarked about the sense of freedom because no one can fire you and you set your own financial goals.

Advice For New Avon Representatives

Denise tells me that for new Avon reps, the sky is the limit as they have nothing to lose.  They start the business for $10 and there’s no need to buy any inventory as with other businesses.

  • Timing is important. Representatives should buy products ahead of time for customers that will use them.
  • Think strategically.  You’re your own boss.  Be disciplined about the hours you put into it.  Make decisions that will be profitable.  Buy things that you know will sell.  We both agreed that in order to be successful at any business it is important to treat it like a business, not a hobby.
  • Commit.  Dedicate yourself and your time to the venture.  Get on a  schedule and know what you want to get out of it.
  • If you aren’t your own best customer then you’re losing money.
  • Make it a lifestyle, not a job.  When you truly love what you’re selling it doesn’t feel like a job.

How Does AVON Help Denise Reach Her Financial Goals?

Now that Denise is in a better place financially (recently secured a FT position), everything she makes from AVON is “me money”.  This includes everything from massages, eyebrows, Christmas gifts or just extra spending money that she would not have if Avon weren’t  a part of the picture.  This adds to her feeling of independence as she remembers that only 3 years ago she had lost her job and today, thanks to Avon she is feeling more independent.

What are your thoughts on AVON and the opportunity to set your own schedule and make as much or little as you want?

Disclaimer:  I am a paid brand ambassador for AVON. My views are my own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Avon and its affiliates.
