I just got back from Waikiki and could not believe the number of young, beautiful streetwalkers outside the hotels every night. I get upset thinking about my two daughters and hope my investments in their education will keep them away from these other choices in life.

My question is whether they exhausted all other avenues of the job search, first. Did they try working at a Starbucks or at an office, etc. before they chose stripping, or did they just default to it? I certainly have nothing against strippers or the business, but I wonder why educated, successful women would resort so quickly to a perceived unrespectable profession?

I agree that this decision is going to follow them for the rest of their lives... I kind of wonder what was going on in their minds when they made this decision.

My answer would be that it depends on whether or not they are looking to re-enter the workforce once the economy picks up, at their old job and their old rate.

If no, then all the power to them (although, they WILL get old and no one wants an ol' biddy working a pole for a dollar bill), for taking charge of their future and trying to make cash just to survive.

If yes, then I think they are some of the dumbest broads out there (no offense to exotic dancers who do it for a living and a career).

I do wonder if these are girls who weren't so hot at their original jobs ANYWAY, and thought (maybe rightly so), they'd make a heck of a lot more money working the pole in the same amount of time.

My only concern for them would not only be what you detailed above, Ginger, but the fact that they are going to have a short-lived career. And when she's 40 or 45 (if you have Kim Cattrall's body maybe) is she still going to be on the pole?

Hell no!

Maybe she will have the smarts to turn into a Madam or to open her own strip club but my guess is that many of these women will make big bucks, quick, spend it all or not be careful with their money and then be screwed for a retirement plan unless a sugar granddaddy comes along.

Maybe it's also an upkeep of a certain type of lifestyle they are used to?

Could they not have cut back on their lifestyle? Pinched a bit? Ate some discount meats? Went to Mickey D's instead of Pastis? Who knows. We aren't in their heels so to speak, but this is a really questionable career move in my opinion.
