Most colleges have affordable health insurance for students, too. International students are usually required to purchase a plan, but it is also available to other students. This is especially good if you're older than the maximum age requirement on a parent's plan. They had it when I was attending USC and they also have a plan at our local community college.

Great post! You can also get it through group plans online (I got mine through healthinsurance.org). Also there are health care co-ops (that aren't insurance) that can provide lower-cost health care. Also, if you are in college, many schools offer health care and health insurance at lower rates.
