Brown Eliminates Tuition for Lower Income Students

Brown is following in the footsteps of Ivy League institutions Harvard, Yale Dartmouth and Stanford, by eliminating tuition for students whose parents earn less than 60k. I don’t know about you but this is awesome news!

This will definitely lessen the gap between students who are bright enough to get into Brown but don’t apply because of the daunting tuition, room and board fees which top out at $47,740.

I commend these institutions of higher learning for setting the tone for other schools, because hope that they too will follow. Graduating with a mortgage sized student loan is no fun.

Highlights of the article

  • also plans to substitute grants for student loans in the financial aid packages of students whose families earned less than $100,000 a year.
  • new program cuts reliance on loans for all students regardless of family income
  • major step forward to ensure that our nation’s best students from lower- and middle-income families can attend Brown and graduate without the enormous burden of college debt.”

Do you know anyone that would benefit from this?

This is GREAT news!!!! Especially as I’m preparing a teenager for college.. THANKS Ginger!

  2. That’s fantastic news! Wish some of the current trends towards lowering the price of college were put into place while I was still in college but it makes me happy to see it, all the same. Better late than never, right?

@ BK–Get them READY! At this point I would hire one of those admissions specialistts to make sure they get in. You know that you’ll be GRAVY afterwards LOL!

@ Real-I am disappointed for those of us with mortgage sized loans. When are we going to get a break?
